B.Sc.(Hons.) Home Science course
The Acharya N.G.Ranga Agricultural University offers an unique 4 year degree course, Bachelor of Science (Hons.) in Home Science with specialization in Foods & Nutrition /Family Resource Management/Human Development & Family Studies / Extension & Communication Management /
Textiles & Apparel Designing. The main objective of this course is to impart skills in proper management and utilization of resource, income generation for improving the quality of life with special reference to women and children.
B.Sc (Hons) Fashion Technology
The University is offering 4 year degree program, Bachelor of Science (Hons) in ‘Fashion Technology’ from the academic year 2011-12. This programme was initiated in the Department of Apparel & Textiles, College of Home Science, Hyderabad with an aim to provide HR for Textile and Apparel industry.
The course curriculum has been designed to meet the needs of fashion industry. Special courses
on fashion innovations, fashion accessories, fabrics trends, yarn crafts etc. will provide the students a
complete knowledge of the present fashion scenario. Additional courses on draping and illustration would
sharpen the skills in designing and to compete with their counterparts of other fashion institutions. This
programme also provides in-depth managerial and entrepreneurial skills in the production, marketing and management. The Internship programme which is being offered in the course helps the students to understand the present day need of the industries.
The 4 year degree program ‘B.Sc (Hons) Fashion Technology’ helps the students to pursue higher
education and gain employment in industries and establish own enterprises.
B.Sc (Hons) Food Science & Nutrition
The University is offering 4 year degree program, Bachelor of Science (Hons) in ‘Food Science
and Nutrition’ from the academic year 2012-13. This programme is being initiated in the Department of
Foods & Nutrition, College of Home Science, Hyderabad with an aim to provide HR for food industries,
research institutions, Government line departments, NGOs etc.
The course on ‘Food Science and Nutrition’ provides the students with an understanding of the practical side of food science and processing, product development, quality management and applied nutrition. It enables them to develop key analytical and professional skills as well as management and marketing skills. The number of positions available for food science professionals is high because of the growing size of the food industries and the need to ensure the quantity, quality, variety, and safety of foods. This area also has a wide scope for employment and further studies.

Criteria for selection:
The candidates shall be selected based on merit in optional subjects of the two year Intermediate
Examination as per the rule of reservation. In case of other equivalent examinations passed by the candidates, the weightage of marks obtained in optional subjects shall be reckoned on par with those of the two year Intermediate examination.
In case of a tie in aggregate marks obtained by two or more candidates, the marks secured in the
Intermediate (10+2) shall be taken into consideration. In case of a further tie, the age of the candidates shall be taken into consideration and the older candidates shall be given preference for
the seat.
Age:
The candidates for admission to this course in the University shall be required to have completed 17 years of age on 31st December of the year of admission with an upper age limit of 22 years for all the candidates and 25 years in respect of SC and ST candidates and 27 for Physically Challenged candidates.
Reservations:
Reservation of seats for the candidates coming from Rural Areas:
40% of the seats in this course are reserved for candidates coming from rural areas. Candidates
seeking admission under this category should produce a certificate(s) from the Heads of Institutions that the candidate has studied for a period of minimum 4 years in the schools located in Non-Municipal areas during their period of study from 1st class to 12th class/Intermediate (any four years). The relevant information has to be filled in the proforma as prescribed in Form-I of the application from duly signed by the Head of the institution concerned.
If the certificate referred above has not filled in the proforma in application form duly signed by the concerned Head of Institution or officer mentioned above along with office seal, the claim of the candidates under this category will be rejected.

Backward Classes: 29% of seats are reserved under this category.

Allocation of seats in favour of Local candidates in relation to Local area:
Admission to 85% of the seats after excluding those reserved for the candidates from non-local areas (15%) shall be reserved in favour of and allocated among the candidates in relation to the local area in respect of the Andhra University (AU), Osmania University (OU) and Sri Venkateswara University (SVU) in the ratio of 42 : 36 : 22 respectively.
Hostel facility:
Hostel facility shall be provided subject to the availability of accommodation.
Fee:
The particulars of fees in respect of three courses of U.G. Programmes under Faculty of Home Science are given hereunder.
The candidates who are granted admission shall pay the prescribed fee at the time of joining the
college and hostel. However, it may be noted that the fees structure indicated below may be revised and the same shall be displayed in the ANGRAU website very soon.

Seat cancellation fee:
Fees once paid to the University shall not be refunded under any circumstaqnces. In
addition, the candidate has to pay Rs.1,200/- for General Category and Rs.600/- for SC/ST
category at the time of seat cancellation at any time.
Original certificates to be produced at the time of Counselling:
The candidates who secures a seat, should submit the following certificates in Original at the time
of joining the college.
i) Two conduct certificates one from the College or School where the candidate last studied and the
other from an officer of the State Government or any other respectable person.
ii) Transfer Certificate from the College or School where the candidate last studied.
iii) Pass Certificate cum Memorandum of Marks obtained by the candidates at the qualifying examination (Intermediate / 3year diploma in Home-science)
iv) The Community Certificate in the case of candidates belonging to Backward Classes, Scheduled
Castes and Scheduled Tribes, signed by the competent authority.
v) Three passport size photographs.
vi) An Income Certificate of father/guardian to be signed by any officer not below the rank of the Mandal Revenue Officer of the Revenue Department of the Mandal concerned.
vii) Physical fitness certificate issued by a Govt. Doctor not below the rank of Assistant Civil Surgeon.
Candidates called for counselling shall have to attend at their own cost.
Ragging:
The parents have to give an undertaking (as per judgement of Hon’ble High Court, A.P.) in Form II that in the event of child committing or indulging in the act of ragging, they would also be liable for punishment along with their ward.
